How does my child sign up to play in the BJBL?
Registration for the BJBL is conducted mid-September, normally during the 2nd and 3rd weeks of the month. Once dates are finalized, registration information will posted on our website In addition, an online registration process will be available. |
When do these leagues start?
The leagues for 2nd through 6th grade start practice the first Saturday in November and play league games once a week from December through mid-February. 7th and 8th grade girls play league games in the fall (October and November) - prior to the Junior High season. 7th and 8th grade boys play league games in February and March after the Junior High season. |
How often do the teams practice?
All 2nd through 6th grade recreation teams hold one practice a week for one hour. The practice time is determined by the team Coach in coordination with the League Director. Practices are held between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. and can occur on any night, Monday through Thursday. No guarantees can be made as to what night or time a team may be assigned. Once a practice time is assigned to a team, it generally remains the same for the entire season unless the team needs to work around special school events or lack of availability of a gym. The 7th and 8th grade teams do not practice on a regular basis once games start. |
How often do the kids play games?
The 2nd through 6th grade teams play one game each Saturday, starting in December. 7th and 8th grade girls and boys play league games throughout the week and possibly on Saturday. Generally, the 7th and 8th grade teams average two games per week, except in the tournament, when it could be more games based on the bracket and timing. The schedule for each league is set by that grade’s League Directors (Boys & Girls). |
Who coaches the recreation league teams?
BJBL uses all volunteer coaches in our leagues. At registration, parents who are interested in coaching note that on the registration forms. The League Directors secure Coach volunteers from this process. All coach volunteers are required to complete a coaching application including background information. |
How are kids assigned to teams?
Each player is evaluated for strength of skills. Based on strength of skills, the players are placed in a blind draft and assigned to teams accordingly to ensure parity across teams. For this reason, requests for kids to be on a certain coach’s team or another player’s team cannot be accommodated, unless players have siblings in the same grade. |
